Getting Started - la Petite Plan
La Petite Plan is more of a basic "starter" plan which is less intensive than the Deeper Learning Plan, yet nevertheless provides your faculty and staff with the most essential, or basic knowledge, strategies and tools to create a 21st century school.
La Petite Plan allows you to get started immediately on moving the educational experiences of your students into the 21st century with a smaller initial investment of time and funding.
We at 21st Century Schools do not offer any programs that are of lesser quality in order to reduce the initial cost, or more accurately, financial investment of our clients.
The program for La Petite Plan offers three on-site consultations per year. Each on-site consultation is two-to-five days, and may include face-to-face planning and advisement as well as professional development for teachers and administrators. We will work closely with you in planning the best program to meet the specific needs and interests of your teachers. We recommend:
1. PBL21 - Designing the 21st Century Classroom - this is our very important foundational workshop, and the starting point for both La Petite and Deeper Learning plans. This is an interactive, experiential workshop which actually models a 21st century classroom. It introduces the paradigm of 21st century education - curriculum and instruction, 21st century skills, multiple literacies for the 21st century, the global classroom and the meaningful integration of technologies. All of these must be embedded within an intentionally designed Learning Environment - we examine the design of the Physical Environment, the Emotional Environment and the Academic Environment.
From there we move into classroom strategies, thinking tools, interdisciplinary curriculum design, the global classroom, project-based learning, authentic and performance-based assessments . . . by the end of a 2-day workshop teachers will have examined, then designed their own framework for a 21st century unit of curriculum.
Optionally, extending this workshop to five days will provide teachers with needed time and greater support as they more thoroughly research and design their units of curriculum. However, we can begin with a 2-day workshop and follow up the next time with a more involved curriculum design experience. This provides the teachers with an opportunity to design an initial unit, "test-drive" it in the classroom, and be prepared to analyze that experience, then refine it at a much higher level at the next workshop.
2. Custom professional development - the next two workshops for La Petite will be planned based upon:
a) our recommendations based upon our experiences of having worked with your faculty, and
b) your choices - which may be selected from our many excellent workshops.
3. Supplemental Virtual Support is also available and can be added to la Petite Plan - Getting Started.
